Why We Include HYROX in Our Weekly Programming
At CrossFit Alberton, we’ve incorporated HYROX-style workouts once a week, typically on Saturdays. Here’s why:
- Enhanced Endurance: HYROX emphasizes running, a vital component of fitness that builds cardiovascular endurance and complements the strength and power developed in CrossFit.
- Improved Recovery: HYROX-style workouts offer a different type of stimulus, allowing members to train hard without overloading their nervous systems. This ensures they feel refreshed and ready to tackle the week ahead.
- Variety and Excitement: HYROX adds a new layer of fun and variety to our programming, keeping members engaged and motivated.
- Mental Toughness: The race-like format challenges athletes to push through discomfort, building grit and resilience that translate into all areas of life.
- Enjoyable Running: We’ve found that many CrossFitters don’t enjoy running initially, often preferring to “lift weights faster.” However, HYROX makes running more engaging—it’s like adding cheese sauce to vegetables. As long as our members are getting their “vegetables” in, we’re happy!

Weekly Training Structure
Our weekly programming is designed to balance strength, conditioning, and recovery, ensuring optimal preparation for both general fitness and HYROX-specific goals. The structure below is just an example and may change based on the needs of our members and programming focus:
- Monday: Strength & Metcon
- Tuesday: Metcon & Accessory Work
- Wednesday: Strength & Metcon
- Thursday: Metcon & Stretching/Accessory Work
- Friday: Strength & Metcon
- Saturday: HYROX-Style Training
By incorporating HYROX into our calendar, we give members a benchmark to measure progress, much like the CrossFit Open, a triathlon, or a marathon. These events serve as tests of fitness, providing clear goals and an opportunity to celebrate achievements.

While HYROX focuses on running and functional fitness, CrossFit provides the comprehensive training needed to excel in the race. CrossFit’s varied programming builds:
