I like to think of CFA as a person. For this blog, CFA has no pronouns—not out of fear of offending, but because CFA 2.0 (CrossFit Alberton 2.0) is, at the end of the day, a gym. Imagining it as a person might seem strange at first, but bear with me—I think you’ll get it as the article goes on.
CFA has values, a moral compass. It’s surprising to think of a gym this way, but these qualities help CFA stay on track and draw the right people in.
I picture CFA as the hardest worker in the room. Not the most talented, but always the hardest working. That mindset makes CFA nearly impossible to beat, in the gym and in life. CFA tackles challenges with a smile and doesn’t settle, ever. It knows hard work is essential, and that nothing worthwhile is handed over for free. CFA is never entitled.
CFA loves giving high fives—it’s what it does best. High fives break the ice, make people feel accomplished, and let them know they’re welcome. Hugs, though, aren’t CFA’s thing. Not because it doesn’t appreciate affection, but because hugs can feel a little too personal, and CFA doesn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. Plus, after a workout, there’s the sweat factor. CFA makes sure everyone feels welcome, especially newcomers. It knows how intimidating a new gym can be, so it introduces them to people and shows them around.
CFA speaks with kindness and encouragement, not just for workouts but for life. It’s all about positivity and doesn’t use harsh language. Why? Because it’s not lekker (nice), and CFA is a family-friendly environment. There are kids and grandparents around. CFA’s mom (yes, it has a mom!) didn’t like swearing either—she said there are far better ways to express yourself.
CFA is all about encouragement, especially when people are struggling. It remembers how hard it was to be the last one to finish a workout. It also knows that when motivation dips, a friendly check-in can make a difference. If someone’s been absent, CFA reaches out and invites them to the next workout. It’s seen people go through ups and downs, and it knows the best way to help is to show up for them.
CFA doesn’t dwell on negatives. It finds solutions, avoids complaints, and makes the best of what it’s got. CFA leads by example. It doesn’t let circumstances dictate outcomes and always fights hard to stay on track.
CFA is considerate. It books classes ahead of time, not just to keep its own schedule, but to give the coach a heads-up. CFA understands that “there’s no time to train” really means “make the time,” so it treats every workout like an appointment. Unless there’s an emergency—family, work, or friends—CFA never skips. It knows commitment matters and doesn’t let emotions dictate decisions. If it has to cancel, CFA makes sure to do it in time for someone else on the waiting list. CFA never books a spot and then ghosts; to CFA, that would be like standing up a friend.
After each workout, CFA always puts equipment back where it belongs. It’s our gym, and CFA wants it to be nice for everyone. If it sees someone else needing a hand, CFA steps up and helps them clean up too.
CFA knows consistency is more valuable than perfection. Perfection? It’s a myth. But consistency—that’s what creates greatness. Showing up to classes, eating well, pushing a little harder each time—that’s what matters. CFA constantly works on its weaknesses. Staying in the same place is never an option. It’s all about “paying the rent.”
CFA also focuses on moving well. Moving efficiently not only ensures better results but also promotes longevity. With solid technique, you’re meeting movement standards, lowering injury risks, and setting yourself up for the long run. CFA’s dream? To be doing CrossFit at 90, strong, fit, and crushing it.
CFA aims to be the best version of itself. It smiles, thinks of others, high-fives like a boss, works hard, never complains, and just gets it done. CFA doesn’t swear (it thinks of its 70-year-old mom!), always encourages the last person to finish, books on time, and cancels if it has to. CFA loves consistency and routine because that’s where growth happens. It works on its weaknesses, moves with care, and never grows complacent. CFA packs up its equipment and helps others do the same, respecting everything as if it were its own.
CFA 2.0 is lekker.
