You Can’t Do This… Or Can You?

Why CrossFit Is So Much More Than What It Looks Like

CrossFit can look intense—maybe even intimidating—from the outside. A room full of people pushing through reps, gasping for air, and drenched in sweat doesn’t exactly scream “welcome.” It’s easy to think, “No way, that’s not for me.”But step inside, and you’ll see something entirely different.

What you’re witnessing in that sweaty, exhausted individual isn’t struggle—it’s triumph. It’s the face of someone rediscovering their inner fire. It’s someone silencing the inner voice that says, “You can’t do this,” and replacing it with, “You’re worth it.” That’s the magic of CrossFit: it convinces you to fight for yourself.

The False Start: My Early Days of CrossFit

When I first discovered CrossFit, I was drawn to the elite athletes—the Rich Fronings and Mat Frasers of the world. Watching their performances was inspiring, and I thought, “That’s what I want to be.” But my reality was far from that vision.

I’d show up for six weeks, then drop off. It became a cycle of inconsistency. I believed in CrossFit, but I didn’t believe I could make it work for me. Motivation came and went, and without commitment, I didn’t see the progress I craved.

Breaking the Cycle: The Power of Commitment

Everything changed when I decided to stop relying on fleeting motivation and simply commit. I realized that if I wanted my life to change, I had to take ownership. No more excuses. No more waiting for the “right time.”

Before CrossFit, my fitness journey was full of trial and error. Back in 2017, I weighed 117 kilograms. I tried everything I could think of. For a while, running stuck, and I worked my way up to completing a 5k without stopping. I was proud of that achievement, but real transformation still felt out of reach.

The Turning Point: From Wishing to Working

Fast forward to 2021. I joined a CrossFit box a few months before the Open and decided to participate. But I wasn’t consistent, barely attending three times a week. My performance reflected that. After the Open, I told myself, “Next year, I’ll crush it.”

But nothing changed—because I hadn’t changed. I didn’t want it badly enough to make the necessary sacrifices.

That shift finally came when I stopped making excuses. I committed fully. I put in the work, showed up consistently, and took responsibility for my progress. That’s when things began to change.

The Results: A Transformation Beyond the Physical

Today, in November 2024, I weigh 90 kilograms. I’m stronger and fitter than I ever imagined. I’ve built muscle I never thought I could have. And here’s the best part: this is just the beginning.

CrossFit didn’t just transform my body; it transformed my mindset. It taught me to stop holding myself back and to recognize that I’m capable of so much more than I ever believed.

Is CrossFit for You?

If you’re standing on the outside, wondering if CrossFit is for you, let me tell you this: it’s not about where you start. It’s about making the decision that you’re worth it.

CrossFit is more than just a workout. It’s a reminder that the fight is always worth it, especially when the person you’re fighting for is yourself.
